Dubrovnik, Croatia
It is rare to be so thoroughly surprised when visiting a new country, especially one in Europe. But that was precisely my experience with Croatia. This place is stunningly beautiful. The people are genuinely friendly. The food, and especially the wine, are well kept secrets. As a collection of islands, the coastline is prominent with water that is impossibly clear, inviting, and incredibly gorgeous. And Dubrovnik, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is the main jewel in its crown.
Artistry
Dubrovnik is an amazing example of a medieval city, enclosed within fortified walls and nestled in the Adriatic Sea. It is rare to find an active thriving city housed entirely in such ancient stone buildings. You feel the heritage walking the narrow pedestrian streets and climbing the steep sets of stairs. You would be forgiven for thinking you have been transported back in time.
Craftsmanship
As a country still emerging on the international scene, some of Croatia’s finest products are only available in-country. They seem to keep the best of everything for themselves and those lucky enough to visit.
Cuisine
With so much Adriatic coastline, it’s no wonder Croatian cuisine is strongly fish forward. Boasting some of the best seafood in the Mediterranean, it’s incredibly fresh, simple and elevated.
